The American Association of Philosophy Teachers (AAPT) focuses on the advancement of the art of teaching philosophy. "Teaching Hubs" introduce learner-centered teaching discussions and resources to a wide audience of philosophy instructors. This session seeks to bring AAPT-style pedagogy to the teaching of philosophy of science. The AAPT-PSA Teaching Hub is a series of interactive workshops designed specifically for philosophers of science and created to celebrate teaching within the context of the PSA biannual meetings. Organized by the AAPT, the Teaching Hub aims to offer a range of high-quality and inclusive development opportunities that address the teaching of philosophy of science at pre-college through to the graduate school level.
This session addresses the following themes in the design of philosophy of science courses: (1) incorporating philosophy of science topics in introductory philosophy courses that fulfill general education requirements, teaching scientific uncertainty and how scientists communicate with the public, and (2) redesigning bioethics courses to meet best practices in Universal Design for Learning and trauma-informed pedagogy (best practices that are transferable to other courses).
