Association for the Advancement of Philosophy and Psychiatry Session. Recent research in philosophy of psychiatry explores how psychiatric practices and the contexts surrounding psychiatry bear on philosophy of science issues, such as the role of values in science, the classification of natural kinds, and epistemic injustice. This session brings together four papers by members of the Association for the Advancement in Philosophy and Psychiatry (AAPP) that offer philosophical arguments that engage with psychiatric practices and the (social and practical) contexts surrounding psychiatry. An interdisciplinary group of junior and senior scholars-including both philosophers and psychologists-discuss cutting edge debates that focus on the role of mental health activism in psychiatric research and treatment, patient participation in psychiatric research, and the classification of mental disorders in the DSM.
